Mar. 22nd, 2018 09:07 pmName: Moira Rosemary Bower.
Age: 31 going on 32
Birthdate: May 8th, 1986
Zodiac: Taurus
Supernatural Status: Half-witch and half-fae (witch on her mother's side; fae on her father's)
Powers & Abilities: Like the magic of Harry Potter, Moira knows a variety of spells, charms, incantations, etc. For example, she can charm things to fly and she can transfigure a tea cup into a kitten. She can brew potions and tend to herbs for her magic as well. Her magic varies in terms of what it accomplishes, and the more complicated the spell, the more it takes out of Moira to use it. She uses a wand to focus her magical energy though she's also capable of wandless magic. Wandless magic just tends to be messier, less refined, and less powerful than that used by a wand.
However, instead of Latin spells, the magic of Moira's world requires spells in the form of poems, which makes casting them a bit tedious. Unlike Harry Potter, spells, charms, etc. can be cast ahead of time and "bottled" in an object for quick release when the situation calls for it. Like a bath bomb but for magic, one might say. Moira's objects of choice are usually bottles of nail polish, for ease and convenience.
Also, witches tend to focus/specialize in certain types of magic, in addition to basic magic skills. For Moira, she considers herself a "sea witch." She's loved the water her whole life (truly her father's daughter) and spends as much time as she can by, in, or around the water. She scries with water (a method of divining the future, though water is the least accurate of possibilities that include: fire, mirrors, earth, and stone. She can also communicate to other magic users via water: puddles, ponds, rivers, etc. She can swim underwater for indeterminate amounts of time using her magic, whether a charm or a potion, and spells involving water just seem to come easier in general. She's powerful enough to summon rain, if she so chooses. She speaks fluent Merperson, also.
As the daughter of a water nymph, the water gives her more energy/restores her energy faster. Spells, enchantments, charms, potions, etc. involving water work much more efficiently, and she can harnass the essence of water into orbs of power to throw at enemies in the midst of battle. She's also marked as a nymph by a birthmark revealed on her stomach that looks more like a seahorse tattoo.
She can also shapeshift, an ability she's worked hard to acheive for a good part of her life. Her form of choice is an orca.
Moira is an especially strong and competent witch, aided by her powers as a half-fae. She isn't a god, however, and can be defeated by other magic users.
Sexuality: Quietly bisexual & content with being single. If love happens, it happens. If not, that's fine too.

World Overview: Moira comes from a world in which magic is and always has been real. Magic that exists secretly among the real world, though very few normal humans know of its existence. Faeries, witches, wizards, vampires, shapeshifters, elves, werewolves, angels, demons, as well as other supernatural creatures and beings exist, though they don't all get along. Though those who can pass for human (werewolves and shapeshifters untransformed, vampires at night, witches, etc.) blend and interact often with the regular world, generally, they keep to themselves. They try, at least, but the two worlds over converge, and it's often messy and sometimes violent.
Those with magic and those of the supernatural persuasion live in their own towns, cities, and villages, all attached to human ones but rendered invisible/inaccessible by magic. Of course, that doesn't prevent people from stumbling through or out of these places. They have their own schools and school systems, their own businesses, etc.
There exists a magical government, called the Council for Sanctuary and Peace. Mirrored after American democracy, it's meant to foster peace and look out for magical and supernatural people. Currently, at Moira's point of existence, very few people trust the government, convinced it's long been corrupt by some dark force. (It has, in fact, been taken over by a vengence demon, Lyla, who wants only to sow chaos and destruction by starting a war between everyone.)
Tensions are high among every race, particularly witches and the fae. Each mistrusts the other deeply, both sides convinced that the other means to start a war to entirely eradicate the other. They have a long, dark history of killing each other and selling each other out. And yet there is a fairly sizable population of half-witches and half-faes, despite the tension. They tend to struggle for acceptance outside of their own families, however, considered freaks at large by everyone else. Generally, any revealed match between a witch and fae is considered something of a scandal.
There are numerous other tensions between every other race, but the conflict between the fae and the witches is the most prominent and severe.
Various extremists groups and counterextremist groups have arisen in this environment, and the atmosphere is generally fraught, with people unsure of where or when war might break out. But war does seem inevitable.
